- The Alberta Association of Nurses (AAN) is open to all nurses in Alberta including LPNs, RNs, RPNs, NPs, student nurses, and retired nurses. Our purpose is to enhance, promote, and advocate on behalf of nurses and the nursing profession.
- Click “Join Now” in the top blue header of the website.
- Unlike a college, AAN will not set or enforce professional practice regulations and requirements.
- Unlike a union, AAN is an association dedicated to advancing nurses and the nursing profession by augmenting the strengths of Alberta nurses. It does not focus on employer relations.
- AAN works collaboratively with regulatory colleges and unions to support and advance all Alberta nurses.
- You can find your AAN receipt when you log in and click “my account” and then “my purchases”. You can find your CNPS PLP receipt through the MyCNPS portal here.

- The true value of having a membership is the nurses you network with, monthly webinars, newsletters, a face-to-face annual conference, and having a voice to advocate for issues that are important to you.
- On the top dark blue menu bar, select My Account, then select My Profile. Scroll down to User Info to find your AAN membership number.
- An AAN membership runs May 1 to April 30 of each year.
- An ‘Active Member’ is the name of the membership for practicing nurses. Other types of memberships include Student Member and Retired Member; these are for non-practicing nurses. All membership types expire on April 30.
- An Affiliate Non-Member status occurs when your membership has expired and it now time to renew.
- AAN includes all regulated nurses (LPNs, RNs, RPNs, and NPs), and each have a different license renewal period. Having our membership renew at a different time of year offsets the cost of your license renewal and liability protection.
-
AAN has purchased a corporate membership with the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), which means all active AAN members now receive a General CNA membership at no additional cost.
Once you have purchased or renewed your AAN membership, you’ll be automatically enrolled with CNA. After activation, you’ll receive a confirmation email directly from CNA letting you know your access has been set up.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] — we’re happy to help!

MyCNPS portal says “Association Check Failed."
- Ensure your AAN number is entered correctly into the MyCNPS portal.
- Ensure your AAN membership is renewed for the current membership year.
- Ensure your AAN membership type is an Active membership and not a Student membership or Retired membership. If your membership is a Student or Retired membership and is already renewed for the current year, contact [email protected] to change to an Active membership.
- In your AAN account, ensure the Primary Nursing Designation is listed as Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner. Ensure CRNA is listed as the licensing college and that your CRNA license number is correct.
- If you have multiple designations, make sure your RN designation is listed as the primary designation. (For example, if you hold an LPN and RN designation and have both listed on your profile, make sure the RN license is listed first as your primary designation).
