Effective Oct. 1, 2024, updated criteria for meeting the currency of practice and the English language proficiency requirements is in place for all applicants and registrants, regardless of an individual's application creation date.
Currency of Practice for Registered Nurses (RNs)
You will meet the currency of practice requirement if you have completed one of the following items within five practice years of your application.
- Successfully completed an approved nursing education program.
- Completed at least 250 hours of nursing practice (includes RN and NP hours).
- Completed the Registered Nurses Canadian Competence Assessment Program (RNCCAP [formerly known as ARNAP]) with results indicating competence to practise as a RN.
- Successfully completing a recognized nursing bridging program.
- Successfully completed an approved program leading to re-entry to nursing practice (also known as a nursing refresher program).
- Completed nursing courses, at a college or university level (at the discretion of the Registrar).
