Keynote Speaker

Dr. Kim Hogarth

CNO, Primary Care Alberta

Dr. Kim Hogarth is Alberta’s first chief nursing officer and the first in Canada with a role dedicated to primary care. She brings a rich and varied background to the position, with experience as a registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, nurse practitioner and in health and academic leadership.

Her clinical practice spans rural settings, including emergency, labour and delivery and acute care. She holds a Master of Nursing – Nurse Practitioner from Athabasca University in an all-ages primary care program. She also earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Aspen University, where her dissertation focused on chronic disease prevention and management.

Most recently, she was program director in provincial medical affairs with AHS, overseeing physician compensation and care model planning. She also spent a couple of years with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta as a contract reviewer for the Practical Nurse program. Before these roles, she spent more than a decade in post-secondary education, including appointments as associate dean and later dean at Red Deer Polytechnic, and associate dean at Bow Valley College.

As a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Kim is passionate about Indigenous health and building partnerships with Indigenous communities. She’s known for her commitment to best practices, quality care and helping nurses thrive to improve outcomes for all Albertans.

Outside of work, Kim enjoys gardening and spending time outdoors with her husband and two children. They live on an acreage near Olds, Alberta- also home to three cats, a few chickens, and some ducks.

About AAN

The Alberta Association of Nurses (AAN) was created by nurses, for nurses. It is Alberta’s first profession-inclusive nursing association, meaning all nurses – LPNs, NPs, RPNs, RNs, nursing students, and retired nurses – belong here. Its purpose is to enhance, promote, and advocate for all nursing professions.

Since our launch in May 2022, thousands of nurses have joined and added their voice. AAN’s goal is to be the go-to resource for professional support and development for all Alberta nurses.
