Frequently Asked Questions

What is a scholarship Annuity and how does it work?

A scholarship annuity is a financial setup where a sum of money is invested to generate income over time. The initial amount, called the principal, is invested wisely to earn returns. Each year, the income generated from these investments is used to fund scholarships. The goal is to grow the principal through reinvestment and fundraising, ensuring there are enough funds to provide scholarships annually. The principal is not used to provide scholarships.

Who is the Canadian Nurses Foundation and why has AAN partnered with them?

The Canadian Nurses Foundation (CNF) is a charitable organization that supports nursing education and research in Canada. (CNF was established by the Canadian Nurses Association). CNF partners with organizations like the Alberta Association of Nurses to administer scholarships and fundraise, enhancing opportunities for nurses through financial support and educational initiatives. CNF also awards its own scholarships to Alberta nurses.

AAN chose to partner with CNF because of its national reach and connections that provide increased opportunities for Alberta’s nurses to access educational funding. CNF is a charitable organization that provides tax receipts for donations. CNF has a proven record of sound investments that provide optimum return on investments and has the infrastructure and expertise to distribute scholarships that meet the strict requirements of the AAN Board of Directors.
